What does it mean to be “called to worship?” Following a week to be forgotten, a pastor stepped to the pulpit at the beginning of the Sunday worship service and proclaimed, “I’ve had a terrible week and I don’t feel like calling you to worship, so why don’t you call yourselves to worship.” After a stunned silence, someone shared a…

. . . the armor of God is the uniform of prayer.
"In addition to all (these pieces of the Christian armor), take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of…

Psalm 20:6-9Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright. O LORD, save the king! May he answer us when we call.
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the… Continue

Certain misconceptions about prayer keep us from experiencing the full power available. These misconceptions keep us focused in the wrong direction and contribute to prayer fatigue. Let's examine just a few of these.Misconception: Prayer is to convince God to implement our ideas.
Some pray as if prayer will give God new information or inspire Him to new ideas. Some approach prayer as if it is the responsibility of the petitioner to decide what… Continue

I was reminded of the Prayer of Jabez last week and inspired to renew a prayer that God would "Expand my borders, please."
I work at a newspaper and like to write. As I prayed, I was thinking, Okay, God, I'm ready to write a book, do something outside of the newspaper world. That was Friday/Saturday praying.
Today, I was told that my weekly 6 page section that we do on kids at school (pictures, articles of topics of interest) has been expanded to 8 pages.
Wow! Eight pages, that is… Continue

Psalm 20:5May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions!
Lord, the joy is from being in Your presence, that sense of completion that comes from know You. A pervasive sense of wellbeing, that You are in control, that I have nothing to fear, and that Your love pours over me. This is joy, pure joy,… Continue

Psalm 119:50This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.
Word is to hope as comfort is to affliction and as promise is to life. Each pairing is composed of a gift from You that results in a blessing to me. Your word provides the hope of glory both realized now and to come; Your comfort brings release from affliction in the here and now and in the yet to come; and Your promise is for… Continue

Does anyone know what a seasonal prayer profile is and where I can find one? I want our pastors to fill one out because we're having concentrated, churchwide prayer for them in October.

Do you remember as a child playing the SILENT game. This game was usually pulled out of my mothers arsenal when all other hope was lost. It was a way for her to get all three of her children to be quiet at the same time, all under the guise of a game. Well I decided today that I am going to play a different type of silent game. God has really been impressing upon my spirit… Continue

Psalm 19:14Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Psalm 19:12-13Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.
How can I discern my errors? Only as they are revealed by Your word; there is no other tertium quid to serve as a reliable and complete guide to my errors. The law, which once… Continue

My husband had surgery in July to remove a Continue
benign tumor from his thigh. It was outpatient surgery, and was a
complete success! We saw numerous answers to prayer in the process - from it being a benign tumor, to it not being in any muscle tissue, to it being encapsulated so they could get it all out! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! However, he had a 6" incision with staples in it,
which will take a little while to recover from.

Psalm 19:7-11The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the… Continue

Voices Together for Tuesday, 24 August 2010
Psalm 19:1-6To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a… Continue

Whenever I read Jesus’ last recorded prayer—“that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity” (John 17:22-23) I add my “amen,” but usually with a certain poignancy. The corporate unity He prayed for has always seemed so elusive to me. How can we get our ministry teams, churches, Christian organizations, families—any group of two or three believers gathered in His name—to operate in one… Continue
