Week 1 Focus: Hope for the Emerging Generations.

Tuesday, 9/1 - Hope

Father, we praise you because the hope we have for our schools and our students is not based on politics or school boards or anything of human origin, but based in you.  We rejoice, Lord, that you are a constant, solid source of hope - not like men, whose minds change with the times.  You are the same yesterday, today, and forever, and our hope is based on your character and on your promises, which will not change.

Please forgive us, Father, when we lose sight of that hope in you and begin to despair as we see developments in our schools that concern us.  Restore in us the confidence to trust that you are in control and moving to bring glory to your name.

In Jesus' name.

Wednesday, 9/2 - Confidence in Prayer (1 John 5:14-15)

Father, thank you for the assurance that, as we pray according to your will, you both hear and answer our prayers.  We confess, Lord, that we don't always know your will and ask for your wisdom and guidance as we pray.  We confess, too, that we sometimes come to you with all the answers, seeking more that you do our bidding than that we pray your heart.  Forgive us, Lord.  Give us the faith and trust to bring our schools and our students to you, knowing that you have the answers and will respond to prayer for the sake of your honor and for the good of our students.  May your Kingdom come and your will be done in our schools as it is in heaven.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Thursday, 9/3 - Pride & Prayerlessness (Isaiah 30:1)

Father, please forgive our human tendencies to strategize and plan and then to ask you to bless those plans, rather than to seek the ways in which you are working.  Forgive us when we come to you with answers and expect you to do our bidding, rather than seeking your answers and responding to your will in obedience. Strip us of the pride that leads us to believe in our own wisdom.  Take from us the worldly thinking that leads us to depend on skills, talents and strategies, rather than on your supernatural power.  Forgive us these things, reveal yourself to us and turn our hearts to seeking your ways for our schools and students.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Friday, 9/4 - Forgiveness (1 John 2:12; John 20:23)

Thank you, Father, for the incredible and undeserved gift of your forgiveness.  Thank you for loving us so much that you sacrificed your Son for us while we were still far away.  Please make of us a forgiving people, Lord.  Empower us to practice forgiveness in our homes, so that our children learn to forgive.  Teach us to live in forgiveness toward those who we believe are leading our schools in destructive directions.  Even while we pray and work for your glory in our schools, protect your people from spirits of bitterness that poison non-believers against you.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Saturday, 9/5 0 Assurance (Habakkuk 2:14)

Father, thank you that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of your glory. Forgive us, Lord, when we despair from looking around rather than looking up.  Remind us often of your sovereignty and as you lead us to prayer, lead us to pray with confidence in both your goodness and your power.  Thank you that you will prevail over politics, over false religion, and over all the temptations that our students face.  Bring our students salvation, deliverance, healing, freedom, and fullness of Kingdom life.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Week 2 Focus: Students

Sunday, 9/6 - Identity in Christ (Ephesians 1:3-4)

Father, please constantly remind Christian students of their identity, value, and future in you.  Protect them from the messages of the world and of the evil one that would seek to call that identity into question.  Remind them always of your love, especially in times when they may be feeling unloved by others.  Keep them from relationships that will draw their thoughts away from your love.  Protect them from doubt.  Strengthen their faith, and walk so closely with them that they know always that you are real and are for them.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Monday, 9/7 - Spiritual Growth & Maturity among Christian Students (Ephesians 1:17)

Father, please reveal yourself to students in a way that draws them closer and closer to you.  Make their faith one that truly belongs to them; move them past the faith of their parents to a faith that they truly own.  Strengthen them in the spiritual disciplines - not just as tasks on a list but as the means by which they can grow closer to you.  Give them courage to say "no" to the busy-ness that would keep them away from their time with you.  Enable them to remain in the Vine, that you may bear fruit in their lives and in their schools.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Tuesday, 9/8 - Wise Moral and Ethical Choices (Philippians 1:9-10)

Father, please ground our students so well in your word that their minds are filled with your wisdom.  Give them courage to make right choices and to stand for truth in the midst of a culture of relativism. Protect them from the lies of the evil one that would lead them astray and draw them into the pull of the culture. Especially protect them from relationships and decisions that would lead down paths of darkness.  Lead them to say "Yes" to you and "No" to drugs, sex, gangs, violence, racism, suicide, and any number of other temptations that the evil one would bring their way.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Wednesday, 9/9 - Healing from Abuse, Fatherlessness (Psalm 10:17-18)

Father, thank you for your heart for children, especially for those who have been oppressed through difficult family situations.  Please bring healing and comfort for the grief of those students who have lost a parent.  Bring help and hope to family situations that are dysfunctional and hurtful. Bring reconciliation and restoration to family relationships damaged by sin of all kinds.  Turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the children to their fathers.  Protect our students from bitterness over hurts of the past - give them hearts of forgiveness.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Thursday, 9/10 - Freedom from Addictions, Immorality, Pornography (Galatians 5:1, 16)

Father, thank you for the freedom from sin that you give us in Jesus.  Thank you for the power of your Holy Spirit to overcome what we could not overcome on our own.  Please infuse our students with that spiritual power - power to break free from the chains of sin.  Please give our students wisdom to stay clear of paths that will lead them into sin.  May your word be a lamp for their feet and a light for their path.  Call our students to lives of holiness as a testimony to your grace and to your power in their lives.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Friday, 9/11 - A Clear, Bold Testimony (Ephesians 6:19-20)

Father, please fill our students with love for you and love for those outside the kingdom.  Grant them a witness by both word and deed to those around them.  Use their lives to bring conviction to their fellow students, and bless their words and relationships to open doors for them to share the Gospel.  Give them discipline to guard their tongues so that their words may bring blessing to others.

In Jesus' name. Amen.
