Book Title: Something Needs to Change: A Call to Make Your Life Count in a World of Urgent Need

Author: David Platt

God took David Platt on a trip to the Himalayas for one week - the result: a man on his knees before God, sobbing his heart out because of what he had seen and experienced.

After that week, nothing would ever be the same for David Platt. This book describes what happened.

Believers in Jesus Christ in the Himalayas have no church buildings. No liturgy. No choir. No budget. But they love Jesus and they follow Him in the midst of harsh, strange and dangerous conditions.

But this is very clear: They are the church.

Reading this book is as if the reader is also on the journey with the author and Jesus. It is fascinating, heartbreaking and lifechanging. Jesus is not afraid to go to the remotest parts of the world to searh for lost souls and people in dire need.

May God make His people in the Himalayas triumphant and joyful for His glory.

Lord God, people are the church, we are Your church. Please help us to understand what You expect of us. Let our lives count too, according to Your plans and purposes. You promised that You will build Your church and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. Let it be so for Your Kingdom and glory and joy. In the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

P.S. David Platt has a wonderful writing style - easy to read, compelling and to the point. I finished the book in a couple of hours. It is the kind of book one wants to read more than once.

Title: A shepherd looks at Psalm 23.

Author: W Phillip Keller

Available on Amazon in different formats: kindle, audio and paper at various very affordable prices. Zondervan Publisher.

I read this book years ago when I was still a very young believer and loved the book. It encouraged me in my walk with the Lord and taught me much about Him.

Recently I decided to re-read the book, because I felt discouraged. God is good! The love of God for His people are clearly described in the love of the Good Shepherd for His sheep. So encouraging!

I love the various translations of Ps 23, especially the Passion Translation. But one verse that I usually sort of fast-forwarded because it made me nervous, is v5 You prepare a table before me, even in the presence of my enemies. (ISV) You become my delicious feast even when my enemies dare to fight. (TPT)  I don't want my enemies to be present / close ...

However, the chapter in the book re v5 brought me much comfort. The wise, caring shepherd makes several trips to new grazing fields to check out everything before he takes his flock there. He looks for water, food, resting place, removes toxic plants, trap predators and so on. And if his sheep stay close to him, they will be safe. This is what God does for us too, in this troublesome and unsafe world we live in.

(Chapter 9) Just because the shepherd has gone ahead and made every possible provision for the safety and welfare of the sheep while on the summer range does not mean they will not have problems there. Predators can still attack, poisonous weeds can still grow, storms and gales can still come swirling over the peaks, and a dozen other hazards can haunt the high country. Yet in His care and concern for us, Christ still ensures that we shall have some gladness with our sadness, some delightful days as well as dark days, some sunshine as well as shadow.

STAY CLOSE TO GOD! He is our best Friend (TPT).
