Impacting Cities & Communities thru Prayer
A Community of Prayer Champions, Praying Churches, Prayed-for Communities
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. -- John 15:7-8
Books about prayer promises are popular. "Ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." Who wouldn't buy into that?
But like all promises in the Bible, this one has a context - and the context of this promise is fruitfulness. Six times in…Continue
1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to give thanks in all circumstances. Although scripture instructs us to live with thankful hearts, some times of the year tend to turn our minds more than usual toward thanksgiving. For me, the start of a new year is such a time.
I enjoy looking over the previous year, recalling what God has done that I'm thankful for - kind of like how Joshua had 12 men take stones from the middle of the dried-up Jordan riverbed to create a memorial to what God…Continue
"My name's Andrew, and I'm a list-prayer." OK, list praying is not really an addiction (though some of the more mystical among us might make us feel like we need to confess it). God wired many intercessors - including me - this way. But most of us would admit that there are times when the lists get exhausting. We tire ourselves out with our own words, and our sense of God's nearness dims as we concentrate on the details of our lists.
Enter a book like…
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. -- Colossians 4:2
If you're paying attention at all to events in our country these days, you may be struggling as I am with being thankful. Our country has been polarized - not in an instant, but over time. The polarization surfaced with the election of President Trump, which unleashed a level of hatred and violence that I have not seen in my lifetime. I am astonished and saddened to see…Continue
Father, we acknowledge that the hearts of presidents, kings, and all leaders are in your hands. You are the one who brings people into positions of leadership and you are the one who moves them out of these positions. The times of nations are in your hands also. You are sovereign over all.
Lord, what we see in our country disturbs us - the division, the self-centeredness, the moral drift, the challenges to the very foundations on which this country was built. We see the…Continue

Father, we stand with our brothers and sisters around the world who are undergoing persecution today for their faith. We remember them before you, and plead for your mercy on them and your intervention in their circumstances.
Strengthen the faith of those who are suffering in various ways for their faith, Lord. Draw near to them, and draw them near to you in prayer. As they seek you in prayer, grant them your peace and a sense of your presence and provision. Protect…

Father, on the eve of our elections, we come to you in gratitude and supplication. Thank you, Lord, for a country that has free elections and for the widespread ability to participate in those elections. Thank you for the candidates and for all who have worked so hard on this campaign. And thank you for the prayer you have raised up from your church concerning this election.
Please protect the integrity of our elections tomorrow. In each voting place, clear the way for all who are…Continue

Reflections on a message given by Dave Butts at Worthington Christian Church on Sunday, October 23, 2016 (a follow-up message from the Midwest Prayer Conference).
Nearly every believer (and probably most non-believers) in America would agree that the country is in crisis today. Crisis from the outside at the hands of Islamic terrorists, rogue states like North Korea and reinvigorated rivals like Russia; crisis from the inside on fronts like the economy, social…

Father, we exalt you as Lord over all creation and all of nature. And at the same time, we praise you for your concern for "the least of these" - in this case, the thousands who have been impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
Please reign over rebuilding efforts in Haiti. If any people are still missing, please lead others to them quickly to bring them aid. Grant peace to families who have lost loved ones, and provide materially for those who have lost homes, businesses, and jobs. Give…Continue
Much is being written here and elsewhere these days about praying for our country. Good thoughts, wisdom shared, encouragement and hope given. Hopefully, we're praying even more than we're writing about prayer.
I wanted to take a minute to contrast two approaches that I've personally experienced to praying for our country.
There are many ways to pray for the United States. Some take a very politicized approach to prayer, seamlessly blending politics with spiritual truth in ways that are sometimes inspired and at other times, well, pretty agenda-based. Others take a more generic approach, simply trusting God to bring about the right results without really concerning themselves too much…Continue

The Syrian refugee crisis is the worst refugee crisis of since World War II. More than 13.5 million Syrians are in need of humanitarian assistance. More than 4 million have fled the country and are living as refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, European countries and around the world.
This is how the PrayForRefugees website summarizes the huge crisis currently facing Syria and neighboring…Continue

If you were to create an annual prayer calendar with the most significant prayer events included, one of those "must-have" events would be Seek God for the City, the Lenten prayer campaign promoted each year by Waymakers.
Seek God aims to unite believers and churches in prayer for their cities and communities by providing a daily prayer guide covering the period from Ash…

If you're like me, the new year is a time when you evaluate your life, including your spiritual disciplines. I often change up spiritual disciplines a bit at the beginning of the year in order to keep my time with God fresh.
If you're looking for a different way to start the year in prayer, you might want to consider Pray the Word, by Tiece King. Published by Prayer Shop…Continue

A prayer alert from the Presidential Prayer Team today reads:
Situations like this one drive us to our knees in prayer to our great God, and they should. We pray for the children, who are likely scared by circumstances they can't even understand, let alone control. We pray for…Continue
