There is a Urgent Need for Praying Grandparents

These children need grandparents to be intentional about the power of prayer to keep the hearts and minds of their grandchildren from falling captive to the enemy’s deception. We are engaged in a spiritual battle.

Listen to this short video by Cavin Harper, Executive Director of Christian Grandparenting Network. You will…

How to Pray for Grandchildren going Back to School

I would like to share this Free Back to School E-book with you, giving you resources to pray effectively for your grandchildren as they go back to school.

Some of our grandchildren will soon be going back to school in August and September, some are excited to be back in school, and however, some are anxious because of the unknown.

The beginning of the school…

Raw Prayer

How polished should our prayers be when we pray to God?  It's one of many questions Christians, and many non-Christians alike, carry with them in life.

Recently, I was reminded about how beautiful the prayer of a newborn Christian can be.  It's a prayer spoken from the heart, in their own natural vernacular (which likely isn't politically correct, and may include swear words, unrefined verbiage, poor grammar, and more linguistic faux pas).  It's a prayer that's raw,…

NATIONAL UNITY 2

I wrote last week that I am alarmed over the seriousness of our national disunity in America. But in that blog I pointed out that Jesus did not come to bring unity but a sword. Believers are called to certain convictions that we can never compromise and that the world may never accept.

But I believe it is more important that I write to you about how to interface with a society that differs from us at such crucial points.

Some years ago I read about some of western people…

Where Revival Begins

The Scottish poet Robert Burns said it this way:

“Would some power give us the gift

To see ourselves as others see us!”

It’s a gift most of us need to receive more often. We all want to believe the best about ourselves. That’s natural, and it’s even healthy. But it’s also healthy to have someone hold the mirror in front of your face and say, “This is what you…

Re-painted and Revived

Last week I was on the Island of Roatan, a part of Honduras. It is an island of beautiful colored houses and buildings. When asked about the colors, my guide said everyone who can afford it re-paints their house or place of business every year. It is not only a way to resist the elements of the wind and salt water, but a way to show pride in what they have. This idea was also displayed on the front wall of the auditorium of the oldest church on the island, a church that was the only…

NATIONAL UNITY 1

I have been alarmed of late over the bitterness and seriousness of our national disunity in America. A few elections back I thought I was being funny by asking people who they were going to vote against for president. I stopped asking that because no one thought it was a joke.  Of course this is not restricted to America. Much of the world suffers from similar or worse political divisiveness. This is a dangerous fact about our world.

I have longed for a president who wanted to use the…

How prayer can stop terrorism

First of all, prayer changes things as long as we believe in the power and effectiveness of the prayer offered in faith. We read in James 5:17-18 that “Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops”. The remarkable story of Jabez, a man borne with sorrow, in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 provides a compelling…

Oud - "The Scent of Heaven" - July 13, 2016

Jasim was hosting his friends from the neighborhood in his majlis (sitting room) at home.  They were all welcomed with coffee and dates followed by something special. It was the Oud passed on to every guest. The scent of the Oud filled the majlis. "It's wonderful. Where did you get this from?" asked Saoud.  "I bet it's Cambodian. Truly, the scent of heaven. I wish the scent could remain forever." said Ahmed.  "Yes, Cambodian indeed. I got this on…

PRAYING FOR EMERGENCIES II

I am writing a second WATCHING IN PRAYER blog this week, rather than my THINKING IN THE SPIRIT blog. I apologize to you who may prefer the other. I intend to return to Thinking in The Spirit next week.

Thank God, I did not receive another Amber Alert this week. But this week a series of national tragedies unfolded. Two more black Americans were shot by police officers. That is a tragedy whether those two armed men or the policemen were in the wrong. Who can defend either all…

PTAP: Intercession for Arabian Peninsula - July 6, 2016

M, is waiting in the line at Starbucks while his sister and mother shop, and he allows a new friend to treat him for his cup of tea.  He says with a smile that now that the university has started its summer break, he is used as the permanent driver for the ladies in his house. During the conversation he speaks of a wish for a chance to continue studies in another country.  "More time for me, and less demands to the tasks/duties that are upon a young man, who is part of a large family with…

PRAYING FOR EMERGENCIES I

I intend to post two watching in prayer blogs in a row, rather than alternating next week with my THINKING IN THE SPIRIT blog. So this is PRAYING FOR EMERGENCIES I.

This week I received an Amber Alert on my phone. This is a new function of my phone. In fact, after I received it I got a message asking if I wanted to receive such messages in the future. I automatically keyed in "yes." But, of course part of me wanted to say, "No!" I don't ever want there to be kidnapped children. I can…

Independence Day Weekend Prayer

Independence Day Weekend Prayer

#AppealToHeaven

Lord, we stand this weekend remembering as our forefathers have stood before You in times gone by, to celebrating our history and realizing how much we desperately are in need of your grace and mercy.

On this day we rejoice in the favor You have graciously given us.

We thank You for the blessings of liberty, for this generation and for the generations to come. We thank You for our independence, peace and for… Continue
