Let Love Rule Your Prayers

LET LOVE RULE

IT MIGHT BE TIME FOR A HEART CHECK

By Phil Miglioratti

Miglioratti.jpg Whenever a particular colleague would call me on the phone, I would immediately freeze up. Our ministry was suffering from his seemingly self-serving decision-making and destructive actions. When confronted, he refused to repent or resign.

Somehow I survived that situation. But when he called, more than a decade after he finally moved on, I hesitated to…

National Day of Random Acts of Kindness Feb. 17

I recently noticed February 17 was National Day of Random Acts of Kindness. As I was thinking about it the thought came to me that it would be a good idea for grandparents to challenge their grandchildren

to do random acts of kindness. Then have them report the act of kindness to us. Wikipedia states, “A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person or persons wishing to either assist or cheer up an…

PRAYING FOR GREAT THINGS

If we pray in faith, we will find ourselves praying for great things. I have cancer. I don't know how long I have to pray or witness or write. And I don't want to spend whatever time God gives me praying for a better parking place at The Old Country Buffet.

In Hebrews 13 we find people who were commended for faith by praying for…

BURMA (Myanmar): CONTINUED ETHNIC CLEANSING OF CHRISTIAN KACHIN

by Elizabeth Kendal

The Burmese Army (the Tatmadaw) is continuing its campaign of ethnic cleansing in resource-rich Kachin State. The Christian Kachin have long resisted the Burman Buddhist regime's brutal dictatorship. While the Kachin want autonomy so they can freely maintain their culture, the Burman Buddhist elite and…

Prayers of the Presidents

Prayers of Our Fathers

It has become fashionable in some circles to deny the Christian foundations of the United States. This week, when we celebrate President’s Day on February 17, would be a good time to listen to the words of our national Fathers and join them in their prayers for America:

Benjamin…

I’M GLAD YOU ASKED …

Q. In Sunday School we talked about God’s will; how do I know if I’m praying outside the will of God?

A.  There’s an easy test … “is my prayer consistent with what Scripture teaches?”  Let me suggest an obvious scenario to show what I mean.  Suppose we have Christian who has been…

Night Light

"In this dark world, there's a bright light shining." It's good to be reminded of who that bright light is.

“Sadness flies on the wings of the morning and out of the heart of darkness comes the light.” (Jean Giraudoux, 1945)

Observation of current events shows the world’s darkness.

In Syria—tyranny has slaughtered 100,000 innocents.

In Iran—pride announces ships en route to America.

In…

What makes these prayers different?

Earlier today I was talking with someone who was ordering copies of Seek God for the City 2014 for eight churches of her community. She asked me how it was that I came to write and publish these prayers. “Could I tell that story and put the video online?” she asked.

My reply was “Yes. I think that might be a cool idea. We can do that.” (So watch for that…

Pray great things. Hope great things!

Praying with purpose is simply praying for God to fulfill what He has already begun. Seek God for the City 2014 stirs up this kind of purposeful, “fulfill-it” prayers. Since God’s work is always a story, our best praying will be part of an ongoing story. Instead of using prayer as a “quick-fix” procedure that will supposedly get results if performed correctly, our prayers…

Standing Firm in Persistent Prayer

“God is in the process of redemption for the long haul.  My persistent praying says, ‘Count me in. I won’t cut and run when the answers are slow in coming. Instead of drumming impatient fingers, I’m going to use that hand to knock firmly on heaven’s door - again and again! Together, God and I share the ongoing fellowship of intercession.”  Sandy Mayle

Jesus was persistent in prayer. He practiced persistence in His prayer…

The Privilege Of Prayer

There’s all kinds of topics to write about on prayer such as the power of prayer—or the perseverance of prayer—or the potential of prayer—but I want to look at the privilege of prayer because it truly is a privilege and one that unfortunately is too often overlooked and neglected in the church today. First of all, what do I mean by privilege? The dictionary defines “privilege” as…

FOLLOW GOD'S LEAD

If prayer were a dance, we would let God lead. Prayer is a relationship with God. We respond in obedience to God’s lead in prayer. He guides our prayers. He develops our prayer life.

Have ever you determined to rise early in the morning to pray like Jesus did in Mark 1:35? Many of us have done that. Be sure, that desire comes from the Holy Spirit within you. God is leading. And most of us have had this…

Devil's Food

Think the only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it? There's a far better way.

“No one  can ask honestly or happily to be delivered from temptation unless he has

honestly and firmly determined to do the best he can to keep out of…

Why Worship-Based Prayer Matters More Than You Think

In most American worship and church services, God is worshiped by the singing of praise choruses, hymns, and other songs.  Sometimes, congregants are encouraged to pray silently while music quietly plays in the background.  While these are completely good and acceptable forms of worship, something seldom seen or modeled in American…

CA Drought

Please pray for California to receive water (precipitation). This state produces a ton of food, more than I ever knew before i looked up the CA department of food and agriculture web site. The consequences of drought in CA can negatively effect the whole country, easy. Pray for rain, snow, and miraculous intervention on the land. The following are some stats on food production for 2012. Boggles the mind on how much food come out from CA.

California’s agricultural abundance…
