Productive Sleep

I confess that sometimes I fall asleep while praying on my bed at night. I have often felt guilty of this, especially when I wonder how excited God is about my prayer, when I can’t even stay awake to complete it. On other occasions, I feel OK with it, since sometimes God responds to my prayer while I sleep, and I awake refreshed, with a new answer. After all, the Psalmist says that God, “Shall neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:4).  Furthermore, since God is awake while we are sleeping,…

God's Assignment for Grandparents

God has placed our children, grandchildren and great-grandchchildren in our lives for a purpose. He has given us the awesome opportunity to partner with Him to be intentional about helping our children and grandchildren to know and follow Christ wholeheartedly. He has given my husband and me, 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-laws, 12 grandchildren…

Make Prayer Natural

I’ve been writing about prayer (communication with God) the past couple weeks. Most people struggle with prayer. I’m writing about ways to make it more natural and simpler.
Another idea that enhances your communication with God is making lists about various areas of your life or areas you want to talk to God about in the future. Praying through list helps focus your prayers. Something about list that is great is it is easy to keep track of the prayers God has answered over…

LIFE VERSES

Do you have a life verse? Many people do. Should you pray for a life verse? I know someone who likes to joke about this by saying, "The Bible is my life Scripture." I think that is funny, but it does not really grasp what a life verse is and does.

First, the concept of a life verse is based on the conviction that God speaks to us personally. This is certainly…

The Power of Brief Prayers

Incorporating brief prayers into your daily life will put you in frequent contact with God, which will make your prayer life rich and full, no matter how busy you are. Scripture says we are to “pray without ceasing”.
I’ve heard people say that it is not possible to actually “pray without ceasing”. But it is possible. Prayer is simply communication with God. We can be in praying without ceasing as we…

God Hears Short Prayers Too

Have you ever felt guilty because you did not have long stretches of time to send lengthy prayers to God? Or have you felt condemnation because your prayer life was inconsistent?

Remember God hears the short prayers you offer throughout your day too; like while you're driving, exercising, working, or eating, and yes, He'll answer them,…

An Eternal Perspective Changes Everything

"We may ‘believe’ in eternity, but to what extent have we actually agreed with the world that eternity is not relevant until after this life? Eternity is not merely a time frame that is endless; it is profoundly and foremost a qualitative thing that is available now. When we begin to see all our moments set in the context of eternity, we will bring to those moments a seriousness that we would not otherwise have had." Art…

Miss Slowpoke and My Prayer for 2015

Yesterday at the grocery store, the woman in front of me was taking a very long time to check out. I looked for a shorter line, but you know how it goes—the longer you’re in one line, the more committed you feel to riding it out. So I did.

Then I got nosy. Why was she taking such a long time? I leaned in while trying to act undercover, and then I realized what the holdup was. Miss Slowpoke was choosing which items to take off her bill. She had gone over her budget.

So…

Epiphany -- Past, Present and Future

“Jesus, a man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act.” (Mohandas K. Gandhi)

Tomorrow, January 6th, is designated Epiphany (literally “shining upon”), a Christian festival commemorating the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles in the persons of the Magi. The word epiphany also refers to perception or insight…

Happy New Year - 2015

Happy New Year 2015

We are living in challenging times shaken by the unrest in the world around us. “The institution of the family is in a state of emergency. This core unit of civilization is being dismantled and ridiculed in today's culture.”

The media-driven culture is trying to desensitize our grandchildren and many of their role models are disappointing them. God is being pushed to the perimeter of our culture at the time when…
