Does detachment keep us from praying and joining with others in prayer?

I have personally observed that the issue of detachment can keep us from hearing what God wants in a matter. Detachment might be, you sense an issue in an area because of a personal connection, or…Continue

Praying Blessing--and Bringing God's Love

This morning, my computer was giving me issues, forcing me to develop a prayer encouragement for my church by hand---yes---using pen, ink and blank paper.  I sensed the Lord was taking me to John 17:26 where Jesus was praying to God.   In that verse it gives a reason for declaring the Name of God on the Jewish People.  It was that the Love of God will be in us.  Then the Lord directed me to Numbers 6:27 which tells us why the Aaronic Blessing was given. The blessing was spoken once a day that…See More

Intercessors and leaders

Recently,--that recently was today, I was made aware that some leaders relegate intercessors to just praying for requests that come into a church or a group.  Yes, that is a function of intercession, but not all intercessors are called to do that.  In fact, there are a number of areas that intercessors are called to that cover other areas too.  One important one is praying for leadership.  When an intercessor prays for church leaders or group/ministry leaders, it is not unusual for the Lord to…See More

Breathing -- in spiritual matters and prayer

An area which has only limited teaching on is the area of breathing in relationship with God, and prayer as part of that relationship.  Recently, a dear friend shared with me what I was doing in asking a committee to take a week and seek the Lord on an issue before voting.  That taking a week is part of breathing, in this case probably breathing in what the Lord is telling you.On the subject of relationship-we all can think of good fellowship around a dinner table--taking in food and talking…See More

Teaching of Prayer

I have a desire in my heart to help others learn to pray and as they do, to see them grow in the Lord.  This has been done several ways:

  • Personal contact.
  • Use of Prayer Minutes, which Is a one minute encouragement to pray, that I write and record.  It is in both video and MP3 format.  It's focus takes various relational situations that we face and encourages one to consider ways to pray biblically.
  • Teaching a course on prayer--The 'Praying together Course' is one example, that I have used over the past 3-4 years.
  • Encouraging Regional Prayer.
  • Other ways as the Lord leads.

Missionary Conference--Prayer based

Posted on March 12, 2018 at 11:00am 1 Comment

On March 11, 2018, my church had a Missionary Conference, which was coordinated by our church's Missions Committee. I am on that committee, and can say that everyone working made this conference possible. The whole committee worked very hard. The conference was a blessing to the whole church.

I believe that the following was extremely important to the success of this Missionary Conference:  One member of the committee was not able to…

Pastoral Search Committees

Posted on February 22, 2018 at 12:01pm 0 Comments

Recently, my church’s pastor resigned, putting us into the position of having to search for a new pastor to lead the church. A pulpit committee has been formed, and it is following the pattern of the Tennessee Baptist group that recommends having a Pray Chairman. Prayer is an important part of the duties of the Pulpit Search Committee, and the Prayer Chairman is responsible for keeping prayer at the forefront, and also before the Church…

Pastoral Search Committees- Prayer -Prayer Questions for Candidates

Posted on February 22, 2018 at 11:58am 0 Comments

Recently, my church has started searching for a pastor and has set up a Pastoral Search Committee. We are currently in the administrative part of our duties-developing candidate questions. Since our committee is quite diverse—a number of different focuses/talents/functions in the body—the questions will undoubtedly be diverse. We are working on format of the questions—I.E.—Initial interview, Written Questions to follow-ups, and a second Interview.

Being the Prayer Chairman of the…

I have certainly appreciated your discussion of the meaning of the Hebrew letters in the word, "pray." I use scriptures to pray for others and have especially found Paul's prayers to be useful. I incorporate Ephesians 1:18-19, 3:16-19, Philippians 1:9-11 and Colossians 1:9-12 in intercession. Paul's prayers help me focus on the big picture. Scripturally guided prayer beckons and guides me to move beyond the relatively minor, static details of everyday life and focus instead on God's greater purposes.

Lewis, Thank You for the lesson 1. Music is a prayer to the soul. Many times when I am done in I listen to some type of Christian music and soon I feel the weight of life lifted from my shoulders. "Life is a melody with each stage making its own arrangements with sharps and flats, but  Jesus is the perfect pitdh that brings it all together in unique form creating a personal ballad meant just for you."  So soothing.
