A Community of Prayer Champions, Praying Churches, Prayed-for Communities

Ash Wednesday is only a couple of days away, and the annual Seek God for the City campaign is about to begin.  Please join me in asking God to bring honor to himself in our neighborhoods, in our cities, and around the world.  I invite anyone to post prayers for their neighbors, cities, etc.

Day 24 - Friday, March 09

Father, please bring forth justice and mercy throughout our communities, cities, and nation.  Raise up your church as an agent of transformation in our cities so that your word may be known and your mercy may be seen and experienced.  Give our leaders wisdom to change and to dismantle systems that promote and sustain injustice - whether that be social, economic, or other types of injustice.

Lord God, please let your special blessing rest on those who are single in our community today.  Fill them with the joy of knowing you; grant fulfilling and satisfying relationships while keeping singles sexually pure.  For those who desire marriage, raise up the right partners for them and give them your patience to wait.  For those who are single through divorce or death, bring healing and wholeness - walk with them and bring hope for the days ahead.

May your church's light shine brightly in Rwanda, Saint Helena, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, and South Africa.  Dispel any areas of darkness in these countries by the light of your word.  In particular, Father, please change the direction of Somalia.  Raise up leadership in this country who will lead in righteousness and integrity, and who will seek your wisdom and direction.  Root out corruption at all levels of government.  Bring about a lasting, just peace that will put the country on the road to healing and reconciliation.  Protect your persecuted church in this country and don't let the light of your word be extinguished; may the Gospel crash through the gates of hell throughout Somalia.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Day 25 - Saturday, March 10

Lord God, empower your people and your church to bear the fruit of your Spirit in our communities, in our relationships with neighbors, co-workers, family, fellow students.  Characterize your people by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  As others see these qualities in our lives, open doors for your people to share the Source of this fruit.  Empower your people to live in righteousness and integrity - not the kind that looks down on our neighbors or those outside your family, but the kind that invites them in, that shows forth a life that they would desire.

Please bring healing and wholeness to broken families in our community - whether broken through divorce, through the passing of a loved one, through a prodigal child, or any other circumstance.  Turn the hearts of entire families to you so that they may be reconciled first to you, then to each other.  Raise up believing friends to come alongside grieving and dysfunctional families to share with them faith, hope and love.

Send forth your word, Lord God, to every people, tribe, and village in South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.  In particular, open doors for the gospel to spread throughout Sudan and South Sudan.  Rescue your people from persecution there - raise your hand on their behalf with such power that their persecutors are forced to acknowledge that you indeed are the One True God and to turn their hearts and lives to you.  Grant to your church hearts of forgiveness and grace.  Convert entire households to the faith, and plant your church in each village.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Day 26 - Sunday, March 11

Father, please energize your church around the expansion of your kingdom around the world.  Forgive us our consumer-oriented, self-centered priorities; our horizontal focus; our failure to remember that the return of your Son is imminent and serves as our motivation for evangelism and mission.  Make of us bearers of your light, sharers of your truth, and carers for the people in our neighborhoods, families, communities, workplaces, and schools.

May the light of your word shine brightly among peoples around the world who have yet to see the glory of Christ as Savior.  And may that light shine brightly in our community amidst people who have either rejected the gospel or who have never really understood it.  Lord Jesus, you said that spiritual things are spiritually discerned - so please grant that discernment to the lost in our community that they may understand their condition and their need for you.

Father, thank you for the people whom you have brought to our country from places in the world where the Gospel is not freely preached and you are not widely known.  We praise you because you love them enough to bring them to a place where they could learn the truth of your word.  Please provide meaningful friendships for international students, refugees, and business people with believers who can sensitively and accurately share with them the truth of the Gospel.  Place in these visitors open hearts and minds to be receptive to your word.  Draw many of them to yourself, and send them back to their own lands with the light of your word in their hearts.

May the truth of your word spread throughout the nations of Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bulgaria.  Break down the barriers to the gospel in each of these countries.  You have promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against your advancing word; be faithful to your promise and bring your salvation to every people group in these countries.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

Isaiah 49:6; Luke 2:30-32; Deuteronomy 31:12

Day 27 - Monday, March 12

Father, please fill believers in our churches and our communities with a jealousy for your glory that leads us to speak of you often and to share your love, grace, and mercy.  Give us wisdom in the way we act toward outsiders; help us to make the most of every opportunity to share your word.  Make of our words and our lives a consistent testimony to your unfailing love.

May the truth about you be revealed in our society.  Please expose false stereotypes for what they are, and break through misconceptions and other barriers that we have erected that keep people from knowing the real God.  Bring clarity to our speech about you.  Enable us to constantly speak the truth in love, and may the truth of your word be widely received for what it is.

Thank you, Father, for entertainers and artists who have devoted themselves to glorifying you in their craft.  Speak through them to those who need to experience you through a creative side.  Use them in their own circles to speak of you and to live out your love among the nonbelievers in Hollywood, the media, and other places of entertainment.  Expose the slanderous lies of the evil one for what they are, and honor the testimony of your people in these circles through fruit in their lives and ministries.

Grow your church in the Canary Islands, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, the Faeroe Islands, and Finland.  Purify her in doctrine and practice, that she might be a bride spotless and ready for the groom to come.  Infuse her with your love for the lost, and embolden her to testify to that love through words and actions.  Make your church an agent of transformation in society in each of these countries, so that your love may be known and that others may come to know you.

In Jesus' name. Amen.
