Keys to a good ministry

Prayer  should always come first. All ministry is a divine appointment and should therfore be surrendered to the Lord. This begins with prayer. We also need to pray that He would put us in the path…Continue

Ministries in general

What makes a successful ministry? Why do some ministries fail while others thrive? Is there a common thread for good ministries?

Abba, we know that you have picked out just the right person for Judy and her ministry. We pray Lord that you would speak to Judy's heart and reveal to her this person. We also pray Father that you would place this person in front of Judy in your time Lord, for we are at your behest Lord. Thank you merciful Father. This we pray in Jesus' name Lord. Amen.

I am the Executive Director of Silver Cord Ministries. We minister to Homebound Senior Adults. As we are a farily new ministry, we do not have all the positions filled that we would like to be filled. Out of all the positions that we need, we need a Prayer Coordinator! Please pray with me that someone will come forward to coordinate this area of our ministry. Thank you!

Two of our 'older' children have spoken their desire to be baptised! That alone is shows God's great joy and favor with the work He performs through the Cowboy Kids Church. The great joy derived from seeing these children absorb the knowledge from the Bible is almost too much to bear. You ask if prayer is essential, it is a passion of mine to insist that no decision involving the children is made without prayer by not only the ministry workers, but the elders of the church. The children are too important to have decisions made for them without consulting Abba.

How has God's favor worked in your ministries? Is prayer an essential part of your ministries and if so, how?

Right now we have 2 feeding ministries and a developing Dream Center, patterned after the LA Dream Center. I am fortunate to work with some great people who love the Lord, so politics hasn't reared it's head yet. I do understand what Bonnie is saying, as I've seen ploitics ruin many a good ministry. I think prayer is the answer there also, as it's really the Lord's ministry, not our own or our church's.

The ministry God has laid upon my heart is that of the children. Currently I am leading the Cowboy Kids Church at The Cowboy Church USR. I have always believed that prayer is essential to any forward movement with the children. My biggest hurdle right now is how to keep the 'politics' out of the children's program that others wish to bring in. Perhaps I am trying to be too non-confrontational.

I think meeting the needs is very important. But, as Marsha said, hearing the call of God is essential. At our church we believe that if you see a need in the community that isn't being filled, you pray about it and with God's help, you fill that need. All of our ministries have started this way.

I think ministries will be successful if they fulfill a need. I've seen several ministries locally thrive because they are meeting the needs of the community. One is a free clothing store and the other is a free Saturday lunch. The ladies who started the ministries felt God calling them to do these things. It wasn't something that they were seeking to do, so I guess a calling is important also.
