Impacting Cities & Communities thru Prayer
A Community of Prayer Champions, Praying Churches, Prayed-for Communities
I have been tasked with building an Intercessors Prayer List for my church. I knew exactly where to come and whom to ask for help with this task. Thank you in advance for sharing.
Please pray and ask God for guidance then share what He gives you with others here in this discussion.
We have approx 300 members and are just now beginning to form small groups. I would appreciate the email
We're about the same size church.
First I put together a Prayer Advisory Team.
We started by emphasizing prayer with the Pastor's sermon series on Prayer.
Got the idea of building a temporary Prayer Wall. (It was so successful, we now have a permanent Prayer Wall.)Requested volunteers for Prayer Ministry Team. (Initial sign-up was 12 people.)
At the same time, we designated a Prayer Room (open during church services) and staffed with members of Prayer Ministry Team. (Prayers for morning sermon / pastor, staff, those attending services, and visitors who come to the prayer room for personal prayer.)
We now have 42 people on the Prayer Ministry team. Do weekly Prayer Chain, Intersessor Prayer, staff Prayer Room on Sundays, and other prayer request needs.
Once you commit and focus on prayer, the Holy Spirit will move and bless your church in many ways.
Just doing a general signup for those interested is only the start. You then have to screen out the New Agers, spiritists, Buddhists and counterfeits who want to lay hands on Christians, putting them under demonic influence.
Here's a way to do that: http://orderofsaintpatrick.org/teachings/ministry-sanitation.htm
The agent will come late to duck this and ask to minister anyway. Don't Do It!
Here are some quick tips:
Upgrade the prayer list – Have two lists: one with all the details for the prayer ministry group and an edited list for the congregation. Each entry on the prayer ministry list should also have: a date for when it was received, date of the most recent update, contact information, and weather or not the information is confidential. It should be a priority to keep this information up to date. If an item hasn't been updated; remove it or call the contact and update it.
Keep the prayer list fresh and exciting . Advertise the prayer ministry in the community so you always have new requests coming in as answers are going out. When people give you a request, ask them to tell you as specifically as possible what they want the team to pray for then pray big on their behalf.
Pray topically. Lead the team members to pray short prayers for one need at a time. This conversational approach to prayer is more natural and helps the group pray in agreement.
Don't forget prayer team needs. Be an under-shepherd to them. Pray as earnestly for each other as you do for the folks on the prayer list.
Keep your team connected to those they pray for. Provide postcards and stamps so they can write personal notes each week to a few of the folks they've prayed for. Keep track of who's contacted so everyone on the list receives a card every few weeks.
Hope that helps.
Wow I love these suggestions, there are some things here that I had not thought of or seen done in other groups. Thanks for your suggestions and I will get the book.
Karrol, is it a list OF intercessors? (people of prayer)
Or, is it a list FOR intercessors? (i.e. prayer needs)
The list is for the intercessors to use for prayer needs
If you are looking a list of things to pray for, here are some starters:
Pray for Kings and all those in Authority that they may have wisdom and govern well, regardless of their politics:
Pray that the gospel be preached throughout the world:
Pray for ministries:
Pray for your relatives:
Pray about current events:
When praying for unbelievers you can pray for these things:
And that's just the warm-up.
Wonderful prayers...thank you so much!
Great start for the list and superb suggestions
